As you may already know, the NSW Department of Education and Communities (DEC) ‘Smart and Skilled’ quality framework for VET is being implemented during 2014 with an entitlement model for government subsidised training commencing from 1 January 2015.

Training providers will need to meet strict criteria set out in the Framework to be approved for government funding from 2015.

ASQA is now working with the NSW DEC to maintain quality and standards in ‘Smart and Skilled’ delivery across New South Wales and training organisations will be assessed on their capacity, capability and performance to deliver training that meets the new standards.

A range of monitoring approaches – from site visits to internal reviews – will be implemented. Training organisations will also need to provide evidence of capacity to deliver quality training in NSW, along with descriptions of trainer and assessor resources used, and modes of delivery.

It’s also worth considering that employers will now demand greater choice over who provides the training for their workers, and how it’s delivered.

Providing students with high-quality, engaging, industry relevant resources in your delivery is now more important than ever (student engagement and completion benchmarks will also need to be met).
